Carlos Benson was born and raised in a middle-class home in Covington, Kentucky. Carlos started playing drums when he was 13 and by age 16 he was playing professionally. Playing in the #1 high school band at the time consumed most of his time. In his senior year, Carlos was offered several full music scholarships to study percussion. Drums was what he lived and breathed. So, he chose Morehead State University in Kentucky and off he went. Carlos left school when a jazz trio offered him a job which led to traveling with bands and doing studio work . Carlos has lived in New York City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Miami, Nashville, Dallas, and now, San Antonio.

  • Carlos received his bachelor’s degree in music composition for Film, TV and Games from Berklee College of Music. In 2022, Carlos received his master’s degree in music studies from Liberty University. Carlos is currently working on his doctorate in worship music Studies from Liberty University. Carlos also plays keyboards, guitar, and vocals.

  • Carlos has had the opportunity to work with such notable musical artists as: Michael McDonald, Bill Champlin (Chicago), Kenny Cetera (Chicago), Lou Gramm (Foreigner), Vinnie Colaiuta (Sting, Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corey),  Buddy Jewell (Country), Rick Crawford (Christian, Country) and many prolific songwriting partners. Carlos has also worked with famed music producer Keith Olsen  (REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Heart, Santana, Bad Company, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Journey and more), and Andy Hill (Vice President of Disney Pictures Music).

As a working musician (touring and studio), studio recording owner (engineer, mixing, mastering), teacher, administrator,  for over twenty years, Carlos brings to the classroom more than book learning, he brings real life experience in a number of musical environments. He brings his students an attitude of excellence and encouragement.

Scholastically, Carlos was on the dean's list every semester for four years while attending Berklee College of Music. Currently, Carlos holds a 3.8 GPA in the doctorate program at Liberty University.
